Special Activities

Besides the daily teachings and "break-out" sessions, there will be many opportunities to fellowship and learn from one another.  The following is a list of some of the activities we plan to enjoy together:

Hebrew Folk Dancing - Each morning and most evenings we will enjoy Hebrew (Jewish) folk dancing to many popular messianic tunes.  Our team of dance leaders will be our dance instructors. Be sure to take advantage of every opportunity to learn the dances during the early part of the festival so you will be able to enjoy the full flavor of the Water Pouring / Festival of Lights celebration later in the week!

One of the many outdoor activities.

Hamburger / Ice Cream Social - This social is an early "get acquainted" picnic.  Held outside under the pavilion and surrounded on three sides by beautiful Lake Murray, it is an ideal location for a cookout, with a playground for the children, and a large grill where a number of people can cook their food together. We'll be providing the home made ice cream after the dinner, but we would like everyone to bring their own hamburger meat for their family plus one additional person.  Other food assignments will be listed later.  Be sure to check the Updates page.

Sukkah Party - Providing there are enough people who build sukkot, we would like to have an afternoon where everyone is invited to visit each sukkah and learn about the construction and decorating of each of them.

Senior Citizen's Luncheon - For our seniors 60 yrs. old and up, we will have a luncheon in your honor.  During the luncheon, there will be a special presentation.  Be sure to sign up for this when you register.  There is no charge.

Talent/Fun Show - This is always one of the highlights of the festival. If you have a talent you'd like to share with everyone, come prepared to show it off.  This could include singing, dancing, playing an instrument, participating in a skit, or even just telling a joke.  Contact Ron McKown @ (254) 666-3682 for more information.

Water Pouring Ceremony / Festival of Lights - In the second Temple period during the festival of Sukkot, the Jews participated in the tradition of pouring water and wine on the altar each morning of the festival.  Yeshua appears to have used this water pouring ceremony (the Simchat Bais HaShoava or "Rejoicing in the House of the Water Pouring") to teach about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the end of the millennium.

After a teaching session to familiarize everyone with the purpose what they will be doing, we will participate in a re-enactment of this  Temple service the next evening.  Be sure to bring your first century costumes and "priestly garments" as this will help you get into the mood of the ceremony.  After the pouring of the water and wine, we will go directly into the festival of lights and celebrate through dancing and song. Snacks and drinks will be provided under the pavilion.  Be sure to set aside the time to enjoy this joyful and educational evening.

Israel Fellowship Meal - This meal replaces the Israel Family Dinner we've had in the past. We decided to change this meal from being the semi-formal sit down family style meal that we've enjoyed in the past, to being a nice casual meal down at the pavilion.  The reason for this change is three-fold: 1) the meal was getting to be too expensive, 2) there was a limited amount of space, so therefore we had to limit the number who could attend, and 3) we didn't like to have to use the lodge staff on a Sabbath.

Our plan is to have a "pot-luck" meal at the pavilion.  We will supply the main dish (Jiro, like it was last year) and ask everyone else to bring the rest. There will not be a charge for the meal.  Obviously, we won't be able to seat all 350 or so we expect to attend at one time at the pavilion, so everyone will have to eat, then move their fellowshipping to someplace other than the tables.  We will have a presentation during the meal just as we have in the past.

The dress will be nice casual or Israeli costume.  Further details will be provided at the festival.
