Luncheon Menu

Every year we honor our elderly with a meal served by the Season of Our Joy teenagers and hosted by one of our speakers. This year, the meal will be hosted by lovely husband and wife team, Todd and Regina Derstine. Todd, a native of Philadelphia PA, is a gifted pianist/vocalist. He has performed as a musician in the senior community nationwide and has tailored theme programs around Latin dance numbers, Big Band, Roaring Twenties, Ragtime, Gay Nineties (1890’s), Broadway Show Tunes, Tin Pan Alley, and Italian, Mexican, and Irish Music. He collects sheet music, making for a truly unique repertoire especially pleasing to the music connoisseur and also does impressive renditions of Nat King Cole, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and many others.

In the short 2 hours that Todd and Regina have with our elderly, they plan to serenade them with their music as well as present a topic titled: Taboos to Tattos: Bridging the Generation Gap The WWII generation inherited an intuitive sense of right and wrong, beauty and aesthetics, but they have been hampered in their effort to transmit their values to subsequent generations. Subjectivity and motive-based standards have replaced the law-oriented righteousness of 18th. century America based in the fear of God. The majority of the younger generation considers themselves spiritual but not religious, lacking church affiliations and a foundation and belief in the Bible. They are educated, civic minded, and if motivated will conquer the world. By presenting an explicit scriptural basis for rejecting certain abhorrent practices, Torah-serious seniors can make an impact and become Yahweh’s instrument for vindicating His righteousness and making it relevant to the Millennial generation
